West Morris Survives Scare From Mendham, Old Tappan Next
Summer Koop led the Lady Highlanders in a hard fought 3-set win over rival and sister school Mendham on Saturday.  Koop had a career high 10 kills to go with 4 blocks and 3 aces.  Annie Halbert also contributed 10 kills while junior middle Jilli Zarzycki added a career-high 6 kills.  WMC now moves to the sectional semifinals, hosting 3rd seed Old Tappan at 4:30 on Tuesday.  The winner of the match will meeting top seed Demarest at West Orange HS at 5:30 on Thursday in the Sectional Final.
 
WMC Powers Past Passaic Valley; Mendham Visits Saturday
West Morris put on a serving clinic in their first round state playoff match vs. Passaic Valley on Thursday.  Brianna Brothers blasted 7 aces and 15 service points while Summer Koop rocketed 6 aces and 9 service points.  Aniela Huizenga and Annie Halbert combined to add another 5 aces and 10 service points.  The Highlanders will host sister school and rival Mendham in the 2nd round at 3PM on Saturday.  Please come out and support the girls as they try to take another step towards a state title.  The winner of Saturday's match will play Old Tappan on Monday, who beat Mt. Olive in 3 games.   WMC would be the host if they win.
 
State Match Postponed Until Thursday
The state first round match vs. Passaic Valley has been postponed until Thursday afternoon. If WMC wins, they will host Mendham in the 2nd round, most likely on Saturday afternoon.
 
State Brackets Announced, WMC Hosts Passaic Valley on Nov. 1
The NJSIAA released the 2011 state playoff brackets on Wednesday.  West Morris is the 2nd seed in the Group 3 North section (Demarest is the top seed).  WMC will start their state title quest on November 1st, hosting 15th seed Passaic Valley.  The match starts at 4:30.  If WMC wins, they would host either #7 Mendham or #10 Paramus on Nov. 3rd.  You can see the bracket here.
 
COUNTY CHAMPS!!!!!  WMC Three-peats in Win over Randolph
West Morris survived a scare from a determined Randolph team that they had beaten twice before to win its third straight Morris County Tournament title on Saturday at Roxbury HS, 25-22, 25-21.  Annie Halbert and Gabby Savite (tourney MVP) had 7 and 6 kills apiece, Summer Koop had 3 aces, 3 kills and 2 blocks; and Aniela Huizenga and Brianna Brothers dished out 10 and 13 assists in the effort.  Danielle Olcese had a whopping 19 digs while Kate Blair and Jilli Zarzycki had key kills in the match.  Here is the NJ.com article and the Daily Record article.
 
West Morris Beats Madison, Faces Randolph in MCT Final
West Morris rode a balanced attack to take care of 4th seed Madison 25-20, 25-20 in the Morris County Tournament semifinal on Saturday.  Gabby Savite and Annie Halbert had 5 kills and Brianna Brothers had 6 service points in the win.  Summer Koop contributed 2 big aces, 3 kills and 2 blocks while Aniela Huizenga dished out 13 assists.  Danielle Olcese continued her wizardry in the back row with a whopping 15 digs, while Jilli Zarzycki added 2 blocks.  Randolph upset 2nd seed Morristown in the other semifinal.  Randolph and WMC play the final at Roxbury HS on Saturday at 4PM.
 
West Morris Cruises to MCT Semifinals
WMC coasted past Montville and Morris Hills in the first 2 rounds of the Morris County Tourney.  The top-seeded Lady Highlanders will now face a tougher test in the semis when they face the winner of the Mt. Olive at Madison match.  Last season WMC won a tough match at Mt. Olive and also beat Madison in the finals of the MCT.  The other semifinals is set with Randolph meeting Morristown.  WMC's next match will take place on Saturday 10/15, site and time TBA. 
 
Highlanders Battle #3 Bogota Tough, but Lose Close Match
WMC traveled to Group 1 power Bogota on Tuesday and played an excellent match vs. the 3rd ranked team in the state.  WMC (17th ranked) took leads in both games but couldn't finish either one, losing a heart-breaking match, 23-25, 24-26.  Summer Koop had 5 aces, 5 kills and 3 blocks while Annie Halbert added 4 kills, 3 blocks and 13 digs.
 
WMC Gets Top Seed in Morris County Tourney
West Morris is the top seed for the 2011 MCT.  It will play the winner of Dover and Montville in the first round on Saturday at WMC (4PM).  If they win that, they will play the winner of Whippany Park and Morris Hills in the quarterfinals.  Other top seeds are Morristown (2), Randolph (3), Madison (4), Mount Olive (5) and Mendham (6).   Here is the Star-Ledger article.
 
West Morris Falls At Hunterdon Central, Looks to Rebound
West Morris lost at NJ powerhouse Hunterdon Central on Monday, 12-25, 18-25.  The team couldn't get itself on track in the first game, which also saw them lose starting setter Brianna Brothers to a shoulder injury.  Danielle Niro filled in admirably for Brothers and the team took the early advantage in game 2, leading 12-7.  Following a timeout, HC ran off 6 straight points to take the lead and WMC couldn't quite recover.  WMC looks to rebound with conference matches at Morris Hills Tuesday, at Randolph Thursday and home vs. Roxbury on Friday.
 
WMC Drops Tough Match to North Hunterdon; Hunterdon Central Next
West Morris lost a heart-breaker of a match on Friday, losing in 2 close sets to Group 4 power North Hunterdon.  WMC came out strong in the first game, leading by 8-4 at one point.  However, North battled back and won it 19-25.  In the second game, WMC came out and played much more agressively and again led 8-4.  They continued a back and forth batter and led 24-22.  North battled back to tie it at 24 and then the teams traded points, with WMC having 2 or 3 more game points.  North finally broke through and won the last 3 points of the game and match, winning 28-30.  The JV also lost their first match of the season to North.  WMC now goes on the road for perhaps their toughest test of the season, playing at Hunterdon Central on Monday.  The match is at 6PM (JV is at 4:30).
 
Freshman Team Enjoys Success at Bloomfield Tourney
The West Morris freshmen team traveled to Bloomfield HS on Saturday to participate in the Bloomfield Freshmen Tournament.  WMC battled hard all day, splitting games with West Essex, Ridgewood, Newark Eastside and Roselle Catholic.  Their efforts were enough to qualify for the gold bracket playoff, where they were seeded 7th.  The lost a tough first-round playoff match to the 2nd seed Southern 23-25 to end their day.  Standout players were Alexa Mataczynski and Jill Picciuto (all-around play), Mellisa Krueger and Rachel Derech (great serving), Dakota Koop (frontline hitting) and Olivia Foran (backline passing).
 
West Morris Passes First Major Test - Spikes Rival Mendham
WMC beat their rival Mendham on Thursday 25-13, 25-19 on Mendham's home court.  The first game was broken open with Summer Koop's 9-point serving run to change a close 11-8 game to a 20-8 advantage.  In the 2nd game, WMC jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but saw Mendham claw back to lead briefly at 10-11.  West Morris then took control with great all-around team play and timely hitting by Annie Halbert and Gabby Savite with great serving by Brianna Brothers and Summer Koop.  WMC doesn't get to celebrate for long as they play a very good North Hunterdon team at home on Friday.  The JV and Freshmen teams also beat Mendham on Thursday.   Daily Record article can be found here.
 
Varsity & JV Win Home Openers
The WMC varsity took their home opener in convincing fashion -- 25-14, 25-13 over Parsippany Hills.  It was a team effort as many players contributed to the win.  The JV also won their match.  Both teams stand at 1-0.  The varsity plays in the Jersey Classic at Paramus on Saturday.
 
Maguire, Blair & Uphoff Start College Seasons
WMC standouts Kelly Maguire and Morgan Blair have begun their Division 1 college seasons.  Maguire, a sophmore, is playing a significant amount for James Madison.  You can check out their website here.  Blair is a freshman on the University of Virginia team.  You can follow here on Virginia's site here.  Jess Uphoff is a freshman on Carnegie Mellon's team.  Their website is here.  Mary Consol is also starting for Springfield College's team, which is off to a 9-0 start.  Their website is here.

WMC Hosts North Group 3 Semifinal Tuesday at 4:30
West Morris will host Newark Eastside HS at 4:30 on Tuesday in the North Section Group 3 semifinal match.  The winner will play the winner of the Old Tappan-Mendham match on Thursday at 5:30PM at West Orange HS.  
 
West Morris Tops Barringer, Paramus in State Matches
West Morris beat Barringer HS and Paramus at home in their first 2 state matches.  The defending Group 3 Champions were in control throughout both matches.  WMC beat Barringer 25-13, 25-7 and then bested Paramus 25-21, 25-18. 
 
JV and Freshmen Team Complete Successful Seasons
The JV and Freshmen teams capped off great seasons with wins over Morristown on October 28th.  The JV squad, coached by Carrie Stout, finished up at an outstanding record of 18-5.  The Freshmen team, coached by Gerri Adickes in her first year, completed their season at a stellar 14-3.  Congrats to all of the girls and coaches for your hard work and great play!  We look forward to seeing the girls play next season.
 
Highlanders Finish Regular Season Strong, Win Conference Title, Seeded 2nd in Group 3 North State Tournament
WMC finished up a very successful regular season on Thursday, beating Jefferson, Morris Knolls, Roxbury and Morristown on consecutive nights.  Morgan Blair and Summer Koop led the way in the finale over Morristown with 6 and 4 kills respectively.  The team completed a very ambitious schedule with a stellar 25-2 record.  They also won the Conference title with only 1 loss in conference.  The state tournament starts this week with #2 WMC hosting #15 seed Barringer at 4:30PM on Wednesday, 11/3.  Here is the bracket for the Group 3 North Tournament.
 
WMC Wins County Title!
West Morris won their 2nd consecutive and 9th Morris County Tournament title overall on Saturday, beating Madison 25-21, 25-15.  Madison hung tough in the first game but WMC wore them down and cruised to comfortable 2nd game win for the title.  Morgan Blair, Jess Uphoff and Chrissy Baffuto led a balanced attack.  Here is the Daily Record article on the match.
 
Highlanders Top Randolph, Will Meet Madison in MCT Finals
WMC took care of Randolph 25-21, 25-17 to advance to the finals of the Morris County Tournament.  It was a great all-around team effort with Jess Uphoff making a successful return from her ankle injury.  In the other semifinal, Madison came back to beat Mendham in 3 games.  WMC will meet Madison for the title next Saturday.
 
WMC Ready for Randolph in MCT Semifinals Saturday
West Morris, the top seed in this year's Morris County Tourney, will face #5 seed Randolph in the semifinals Saturday at 6PM at Roxbury HS.  In the first semifinal, #6 seed Mendham will take on #2 seed Madison (4PM start).
 
West Morris Stays At #5 in State, Continues to Win
WMC remained at the 5th spot in the latest Star-Ledger rankings.  They also continued to win matches -- knocking off previously unbeaten Mount Olive and Bridgewater-Raritan on the road and Morristown, Dover (in Morris County Tournament play) and Pope John at home.  They continue their schedule with Parsippany Hills at home on Wednesday.

Highlanders Earn Top Seed in Morris County Tourney
WMC got the top seed in the Morris County tourney which begins this week.  They will play at home Saturday (time TBD) vs. the winner of #17 Dover and #16 Morris Catholic.  Madison got the 2nd seed, Mt.Olive is 3rd, Chatham 4th, Randolph 5th and Mendham 6th. WMC Wins Livingston Tournament Gold Bracket!
West Morris never lost a game all day and cruised to a gold bracket championship in the Livingston Tournament on Saturday.  During the day the team beat #8 Paramus (twice), #9 Williamstown, #14 Mendham and #17 Livingston.  They won their pool with an 8-0 record and then took care of Mendham in the quarters, Livingston in the semis and crushed previously unbeaten Williamtown 25-11 in the championship game.  Morgan Blair was dominant in the middle while the entire team played extremely well on the day. 
 
West Morris Ranked 5th In State in Star-Ledger Poll
The Lady Highlanders landed at #5 in the first Star-Ledger poll of the season.
 
West Morris Moves to 3-0 with win over rival Mendham
WMC beat sister school and county rival Mendham 26-24, 25-14 to go 3-0 on the season.  There is a great Daily Record article on the match.  The team took a close first game keyed by a big block by Morgan Blair and great passing by Jess Uphoff and Chrissy Baffuto.  Mendham had come back from a 22-24 deficit before WMC took the last 2 points for the all-important first-game win.  West Morris then got some momentum going to take the 2nd game easily 25-14.  West Morris concludes a busy first week with a match at North Hunterdon on Friday.  The varsity match is at 5:30 while the JV plays at 4:00.  Find your way there using the "Directions" page.
 
 
WMC Begins Defense of State Title with Win at Montville
The Lady Highlanders came out strong in their first match, hitting on all cylinders for a 25-7 win.  In the 2nd game, WMC struggled to get their rhythm but hung on to close out the match 25-23.  Morgan Blair was unstoppable in the middle and the rest of the team was very solid in all aspects of the game.  The girls continue their busy week traveling to Parsippany Hills on Tuesday.
